Councilwoman Paula Marques, together with municipal officials in the cities of Barcelona and New York, prepared a document calling for the need to limit the price of housing, demanding "more legislative capacity" to face "The growth of speculative pressure" in these cities.
According to Lusa, the joint document entitled "Towards the right to housing: local power, global politics" emphasizes that the success and attractiveness of cities put their residents and stable families at risk, because tourist pressure increases prices and makes more and more apartments are offered for rent to tourists and non-tourist short-term stays rather than permanent residences.
