Jornal de Negócios - Minister puts hospitals in São José and Estefânia safe from real estate speculation

The construction of the new hospital in East Lisbon will leave six empty hospitals in the center of the city. The Health Minister guarantees that at least two - São José and Estefânia - will be safe from "real estate speculation", maintaining clinical values. About the others said nothing.

The competition for the new East Lisbon hospital should be launched "in the coming weeks". The new unit, which is due to open in 2023, will replace six of the capital's current hospital units. In 2013, Estamo, which is the public company that owns the respective hospital properties, presented plans (meanwhile suspended) to build hotels and residential buildings in buildings that will be empty. This Monday, the Health Minister assured that at least two of these hospitals will be safe from real estate speculation.
