More than 90% of the country's capital stock is allocated to the construction of buildings. Other items such as machinery and equipment or intellectual property products are less relevant than in other European countries.

Capital in Portugal is practically synonymous with construction. The most recent data from INE show that nine out of ten euros of the existing capital in the country are allocated to the construction of houses and buildings with other functions. It is the highest value in Europe.
